Things I’ve gone my whole life without knowing (Part 5,893,422)

Clue in the NYT crossword this morning:

Landmark on which most U.S. radio stations base the starts of their call signs, with “W” on the east and “K” on the west [Algonquin]

The answer was Mississippi River. Easy enough to figure out because it’s the landmark for a lot of things, but I’m struck that I have gone my entire life without knowing this. And I’m full of useless trivia.

And now you are too! Yay!

  1. Yes but do the K and W represent? Questions always more questions!

    1. Oh I wondered about that too! I figure the W is for west, but K? Let me know if you find the answer. : )
